Environment Configuration Checker

Compare .env and .env.example for missing keys, extras, value drift, and secret-named variables. Client-side dotenv checker.

Introduction

Environment Configuration Checker is a free, browser-based utility in our Validator Tools collection. Compare two dotenv-style configs (for example .env.example vs .env). See keys only on one side, shared keys with different values, empty values, and keys whose names look secret — all client-side. Environment Configuration Checker catches env drift before deploy: missing keys from the example file, unexpected extras, and renamed secret variables. It parses KEY=value lines (including export PREFIX) without sending values to a server. Use Config Generators when you need a starter .env, then this checker to validate environments against each other. Everything runs locally in your browser — inputs stay on your device, with no account or upload required. Highlights include side-by-side .env compare.
